How to shop on Ebay.

Have you always wanted to shop on Ebay but were afraid? Here’s the scoop on what to do.

 

Instructions

Register at Ebay.
Go to http://www.ebay.com/
and click register
*Remember your individual study or password

Register at Paypal.
Go to https://www.paypal.com/us/
Again remember your study and password.
This is the safest way to pay. If something happens you can file a claim with paypal and with Ebay.
Under the log in box find the “New to paypal?Sign up”
click Sign up. Begin out with a individualized account. You can always upgrade later.

Paypal registration takes a few days. When you register over the next few days they will place 2 deposits in your account. Get the amount of these deposits and log into paypal and place them in the blanks. After this your statement is ready to use.

You are ready to shop. Go to http://www.ebay.com/
Sign in with your log in study and password

Type in what you want in the huge white box at the top.
You can shop by several ways
Brand name
item name
color with item name
any description
You can also type in lot. This will give you groups of items.
Ex. Mary kay lot, Avon lot, lipstick lot, etc

Your item should come up with an entire page of choices.
There are 3 tabs All items, Auctions, Purchase it now.
The Auctions are items you bid on,
Purchase it now has a set price that you can purchase now.

There are 2 drop down menus.
List and ideal match.
List = list, room or snapshot. These are page views. Pick the one you like.
Ideal match= Time: ending soonest, Time:Newly listed, Price+Shipping lowest first, Price+shipping highest first, Price: Highest, Distance:nearest first, Payment:Paypal first, Ideal match and category.
Pick the list you want to see. If you are unsure go with Ideal match.

Click on item description. This will bring up a page on a single item.
Read entire ad top to bottom. There are important details listed and you don’t want to miss anything. Shipping and handling and return policy are listed at the bottom.

Look for the Paypal logo at the bottom of the page. I advocate only buying from sellers that accept paypal for payment. Paypal really helps protect the buyer.

Never shop with anyone who wants to do business outside of eBay. Don’t take unnecessary risks and stay in the ebay and paypal systems. Both companies go to a lot of trouble to make things safe.

At the top of the item page check out the seller. Percentage is very important. I never shop below 98% positive. Click on the number next to the sellers study ex=(245)or click see detailed feedback. This will take you to the sellers feedback page. Read carefully. Pay attention to the negative and see if this is someone from which you want to purchase their items.

Decide your top price. Don’t get caught up in a bidding war. There are usually other items by other sellers. The only time you might not are with rare collectable.

Look at end time. The time to bid is with about 5 minutes left. If you bid primeval you will just drive up the price. Watch your time and know when to go back and check on your item.

“Watch this item” is at the top right hand side of the page.
This will place the item on to your my eBay page. You can go back and check on the item later if there is too much time left to bid.

Favorite sellers
Top right side there is a link called Favorite sellers. This is if you want to go back to this persons items often. They will be listed on your my eBay page. You will also get emails when items are newly listed.

Ask seller a question.
This is the link you use to ask a question before or after you bid.
Don’t forget once you bid there are no take backs. Be positive and confident of your bid.

Check your my eBay page. Click at the link at the top of the page.
Your items that you are watching and your favorite sellers are there. Its a great tool. Set your page options and General settings to get it just the way you want it.

Place your bid. You can place it for your exact bid amount or for the top price you are willing to pay. EBay will only bid just above the last bid until it reaches your top price. This is called a agent bid.
You might place in .00 but only end up paying 10.75 because it puts in individual bids for you up to your top price.

When you win an item pay with paypal right away. There will be a link on the winning email that states pay now with paypal. It will take you right to the paypal sign in and have all the information about price and shipping already there.
If you don’t pay right away you can risk getting a non paying bidder on your account. This is a sure way to end up with your statement closed.

When you receive the item go in and list your feedback. I usually move a day or two to make sure there are no problems with the item.
This feedback is for the entire transaction. If you get a defective item but the seller replaces the item this is not necessarily a negative.
Sometimes this happens just like shopping at a store.
Negatives are reserved for truly bad transactions.
Answer the questions by clicking on the stars. Put in a one line feedback comment. If it is great I usually place great, swift shipping, A+ seller etc anything that will let a future buyer know about the seller.
